Introducing the new and re-imagined Pier Sixty-Six in Fort Lauderdale. Located in the yachting capital of the world, Pier Sixty-Six is one of the most well-known and iconic marinas and yachting facilities in all of South Florida. The 32-acre waterfront property is ideally situated along Ft. Lauderdale’s 17th Street Causeway and the Intracoastal Waterway.
Originally established in the 1950s as a fuel dock and gas station, the Pier Sixty-Six hotel with its 66-spire tower has forever changed the Fort Lauderdale skyline. Since its acquisition by Tavistock Group in 2016, the development team has been focused on reinvigorating Pier Sixty-Six so it can return to its status as Fort Lauderdale’s Social Harbor.
The hotel’s Pier Tower, which was badly damaged in Hurricane Irma, will be repaired and restored giving new life to this local icon. The Pier Top will also re-open as a lounge and the expanisve property has plans for a new signature restaurant overlooking the water, an expanded fitness center, additional event and ballroom spaces including a rooftop lawn, and two-tier pool deck with separate adult-only and family-friendly pools.
In addition, there will be incredible luxury waterfront condos for sale, including two 11-story condominium buildings each with 31 luxury units ranging from 2,600 to 2,700 Sq.Ft.
Tavistock Development Plans at Pier Sixty-Six
The Orlando-based real estate development firm Tavistock purchased Pier Sixty-Six in 2016 and the company is already underway and in the process of reimagining Pier Sixty-Six as Fort Lauderdale’s “social harbor.” Founded more than 40 years ago, Tavistock Group is an international private investment organization owned by Joe Lewis with investments in more than 200 companies in 15 countries.
In 2018, the City of Fort Lauderdale approved the Pier Sixty-Six development agreement and plans and the construction is well underway on this large-scale, 32-acre property. Future plans include a Marina Promenade along the waterfront to enhance public access to the property and a commitment to designate one of Fort Lauderdales’s most iconic structures, the Pier Tower, as historic once it’s restored.
Phase One at Pier Sixty-Six
Tavistock started construction on Phase One in the Fall of 2021 and anticipates the new Pier 66 hotel and the first residential offerings to open in early 2024. The first phase of development was approved in 2019 by the City’s Planning & Zoning Board, which includes the northeast portion of the property on the north side of 17th Street, where the existing hotel property sits today. Phase one construction is underway and throughout the construction, both the marina at Pier Sixty-Six will and the access road under the bridge will remain open.
Restoring and reopening the hotel is priority number one so that it can once again become the social harbor of Fort Lauderdale. The Tower sustained significant damage from Hurricane Irma. In addition, there has already been new upgrades at the marina, specifically to the Pier South dock which now features a new modern floating dock that can now accommodate large vessels up to 300 feet in length or 92 meters.
